My Story
BECCA LAI
CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL DOULA (CPD)

Life is a funny thing. If you had asked me 4 years ago how a doula provides birth and postpartum support I would have had no idea what a doula was, let alone the work they did. I worked for 12 years in corporate communications prior to my career as a Doula.Â
During the latter part of those years, my husband Fred and I began working towards having our own children. Initially we struggled with multiple pregnancy losses and after working with fertility specialists it was determined that we would proceed with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Through that process, we were fortunate enough to conceive our two kiddos, Henry and Madelyn who are the best little people in our lives.Â
During the birth of my daughter, I hired a doula as an additional support person having no true understanding of what a doula did or how she would help. She transformed my birth experience in many ways through being a gentle and also firm support, helping me through my unmedicated birth.Â
After the birth of my daughter, I started to analyze my life and realized that, while I enjoyed my work, it wasn't work that filled my cup. After doing some research, I was accepted into a 16 week full spectrum Certified Professional Doula training through Allo Doula Academy. It included in person instruction, clinical work at The Medical Center of Aurora as well as postpartum work with families in their homes.Â
I left my work in the corporate sector and now am living the professional life I've always hoped I would have. Doula work is the work of my soul. I am at the side of each birthing person and their support team providing guidance, calm, and expertise so that there is space for joy and love when this new life is born.
I also love the connection made in the postpartum space with a new family, helping them as they navigate the world with this special addition to their family. Â
I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to support you at this special time in your life!
